Sony Handycam Review (DCR SR42)

Submitted by Jeff Weisbein on December 31, 2007 – 5:03 PM0 Comments

The Sony Handycam DCR SR42 which I received as a gift from my girlfriend is an excellent digital video camcorder for anyone. It has a number of features and functions such as different effects you can input while recording, 40x optical zoom, 30GB Hard drive, additional memory slot, and a touch screen LCD display. However, that is not all. It has an easy mode – which makes it very simple and easy-to-use for the new or average user. The easy mode will disable all of the non-essential features and/or functions that most people will not use.

The camcorder also features what Sony calls “Nightshot Plus” which allows you to film in the dark – it makes for some pretty cool scary video. The DCR SR42 also has two start/record buttons which makes for easy accessibility at all times. The 30GB Hard drive will store up to 20 hours of video on it, you could record for about an entire day. The battery life from what I have seen is excellent as well, it has survived my usage at least.

The hard drive makes for easy transfer of video and/or pictures to your computer or even a disc such as DVD from your camcorder. No need to hassle with those tapes ever again!

If I had anything bad to say about the camcorder, the only thing that somewhat bothers me, but is not the be all to end all is the fact you need to use the docking station to connect to your PC and to charge it. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say about this device, I highly recommend you check it out if you’re looking for a new digital video camcorder!
