How many monitor(s) should you use? Well, the answer varies depending on your personal needs and preferences. For me, dual monitors increase my productivity. My current monitors are a pair of 20″ Acer AL2016W wide screens.

I am able to be more productive by using dual monitors as it allows me to have more applications and documents open at once, therefore I can do much more.  However, this may not be best for someone who cannot multitask well or gets distracted easily.  If you cannot afford dual monitors you may want to look into the Microsoft Powertoy which allows you to create virtual desktops (acting as dual monitors).  OSX Leopard has something built in called Spaces which does the same thing.  Even most Linux distrubutions will provide a virtual desktop application.

What works for you?  Leave a comment!

I like dual screens. I used to do all my work on the same screen, it used to be a pain if I needed to take notes for something. Now that I have my dual screens, eveything is so much easier

Two monitors will not work for everyone. It’s not necessary for everyone and when it isn’t necessary, it’s just going to be a distraction. Personally, I have one monitor for active use and another for reference material, it saves a lot of time when it comes to clicking between windows. And for anyone who has that problem, dual monitors is definitely a great idea. And you don’t have to worry about desk space any more either, there are a lot of good multi screen support systems available now.
