Best CD Ripper and Audio Converter
Since I recently switched to OS X I needed a new application to rip and convert audio files. On Windows I used dBPowerAMP Music Converter, on OS X I have found a new application called Max.
Max offers the maximum in flexibility to ensure the true sound of your CD is extracted. Max offers a high-speed ripper with no error correction (for CD’s with no damage). However, if your CD is damaged Max can either use its built-in comparison ripper (for drives that cache audio) or the error-correcting abilities of cdparanoia.
Max also offers the ability to rip and/or convert your audio files in several formats including, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, Apple Lossless, Monkey’s Audio, WavPack, Speex, AIFF, and WAVE.
In order to retrive the ID3 tags/meta data for all of your audio files Max integrates MusicBrainz to allow automatic retrieval of compact disc information.
As for dbPowerAMP Music Converter it essentially will do all of the same things as Max. It includes a converter to convert your audio files to and from several formats (provided you have the encoder installed – can get those via their site). In addition, it has a batch CD ripper and converter.
Both of these applications are intuitive and user friendly in addition to being fast.
