Dell to Launch Android Based Smartphone

Submitted by Jeff Weisbein on January 6, 2010 – 3:25 PM0 Comments
Dell to Launch Android Based Smartphone

Today AT&T announced plans to launch five new devices from Dell, HTC and Motorola based on the Android platform.  AT&T will be the exclusive carrier for Dell’s first smartphone in the U.S. market.  The Dell smartphone will be known as the Mini 3 which already sells in other parts of the world.  While the U.S. release date, pricing, and final specs weren’t announced, I’m going to assume that the specs on the device will be similar to those on the existing Mini 3.

The current selling Mini 3 sports an 3.5-inch display (640×360 screen resolution), Bluetooth, GPS, 3-megapixel auto-focus camera with flash, and a microSD storage slot.  This is definitely a big deal.  AT&T will now have at least five (or six if you count any unlocked Nexus One’s) Android smartphones on their network by the end of 2010.

Android phones will now be on every major carrier.  If you had any doubt about the Android revolution, it may be time to rethink those doubts.  The mobile wars are just heating up and Google is moving quickly.
