Talking tech since 2003

Back in 2008, I wrote about the best webcam at the time, but here we are in 2011 and there currently better webcams on the market.  So what is the best webcam in 2011?  Well, as the technology has gotten better over the years so have these cameras.  In fact, some of them are very impressive.  I just purchased the Microsoft Lifecam Studio and it’s awesome.

Microsoft’s latest webcam, the Lifecam Studio has a 1080p sensor built into it and can record amazing HD video.  Plus, it looks phenomenal with regard to both the design of the camera itself and the quality video it can produce for live streaming or recording.  It’s by far the best webcam I’ve ever owned (to date).  Unfortunately though while it works on the Mac (thanks to its use of universal video drivers) it doesn’t shoot in HD (at least that I’ve found).

However, it works perfectly on Windows, which is what it’s meant to work on.  It doesn’t specifically state it works on the Mac anywhere on the box or Microsoft’s website.  However, that could potentially change if people create third party drivers for it on the Mac.

In terms of Mac specific webcams, I’ve found that the Logitech Quickcam Vision Pro is also good.  I used that before I bought the Microsoft Lifecam Studio and overall I was happy with its performance.  The Logitech is capable of shooting and recording 720p HD video.

There you have it.  Two awesome webcams.  If you use Windows go with the Microsoft Lifecam Studio.  If you use OS X check out the Logitech.  Either way you won’t be disappointed.
