I'm looking for a beginners textbook, something to read for someone who's starting from zero. Does anyone know of any good recommendations? I've heard that it helps if you start learning about basic notions of algorithms and data structure. Is this true? and if so, which book on the subject would you recommend?

Lazy answer: look over these two threads on proggit.

(If you'd like something a bit richer than text, Stanford and MIT have their introductory courses online.)

I suggest you to start with the book "Game Programming Beginners Guide by Dave Astle" .
This is best for beginners.

It all depends on the programming language you want to learn/study, but try the sites below & i'm sure they will be of some use:

http://www.w3schools.com/

http://www.tizag.com/

http://www.php.net/

http://www.beginnersphp.co.uk/

Kind Regards: Redex

Hello everyone, it´s been a while since I made this thread. I started with Jcreator (Java) in order to get my feet wet and bought myself a copy of java for dummies in order to guide me as a first timer on this. Though a bit slow due to other obligations I´ve managed to do some simple things and I´m looking forward to keep learning this as a hobby. I would welcome any other suggestions that you may have for this coding noob. :)
Thank you all for your advice
