Just saw some footage on CNN.
The devastation in ChristChurch looks pretty extensive, almost as bad as Haiti was.
They say the Guiness building collapsed, the hospital had to be evacuated, and the city has run out of ambulances.

Hi Keith, thanks for the post.

I have been seeing live unedited feeds coming out of Christchurch via the big dish, blooded people getting out of the city in pure panic, not sure what will be edited for others to see ?
More than 20 dead and will be many more, such devastation my friend.

I tried to go to bed early (haha 1am) not a chance to sleep seeing the fear on peoples face running.
I gotta stop watching raw feeds, but national news is all over this saying the center was only 3 miles from the city, sorry don't know the metric way in kilo , had to be very close to you.

EDIT: I should have clicked Keith's link before reply, so sad.

Didn't see much new stuff on the morning news, but they said that they had evacuated the center of the city.

Funny how so many of their buildings sound like they are alcohol themed.
The Forsyth Bar building, the Guiness building.....

Sounds like they are blaming a combination of previous weakening from the preceeding earthquakes and the location of this one for all the destruction.

Beer or no beer, I bet that in a year those kiwis will not be living in tent cities with streets clogged with rubble like the Haitians still are.

Hi Pete, Oh did I/we learn a lesson with Aussies coming out of the bush in Nam, nobody had a chance to drink one on one with them, beer was the preference.
Some sort of built up tolerance, haha being 128# then and Aussie were much bigger in build.
Never saw one hurl.

I'm so troubled with the quake, maybe 300 are still buried, at least it's 73f there now, I'm at a happy 25f.

hi team
ive just managed to get my compt on line
yes it was pretty devastating
more so with the deaths
and worse still i knew some one who is missing
this quake was 3-4 times bigger than the sep one
my house had no damage structurely but any thing a foot from the floor crashed
some one quoted 6.3
bullshit if they lived in my house they would know different
ishould say somwhere about 8.5
the deaths and the
devistation
will proove that
i saw a statistic on after shocks has bin a thousand since the big one
some you couldnt feel
and others had me running for the door
one ot the worse factors
no water no toilets no power
and no road access
and you can imagine all that made me wished i was living
on the moon
as i only bin able to get my tv going that i can catch up my self
as the news comes a cross
ile keep you in touch
thanks for your concern
in the first quake i near shit my self
this time i hit the jackpot
love ya all
marty

ps:
if any one in this thread
would like to keep in email contact with me
ide love that, it isnt very often i get a chance tomake contact
yes i realise there a dangers and inconviences
i used to have keiths email but over time i lost it
i keep in contact with bill mallenson
and we talk about our country and different cultures
and of course our selves and family

Good to see you made it through the quake okay. I tried to send you an email yesterday through the address you have listed for your account, but it came back undeliverable.
