Yes I have. I remember there was some run command that you could execute with the windows CD inserted that would install original window files. Does anyone know what im talking about here? just that i cant remember that run command.

sfc /scannow

there is a space between the c & the /.

You only need to insert the CD if prompted to do so.

?

Number 237 on left side Change Hard Drive Icon in Explorer.

Have you tried removing the drive in Device Manager and rebooted to see if the drive gets re-detected correctly? If it doesn't get detected automatically try mounting the drive in Computer Management > Disc Management.

TweakUI has a rebuild icons feature.

On another note---
The default icon you are looking for is in C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll.

There is a program you can use to access it & set it for the drive.
It isn't freeware.
About $80.

I found the solution for this.

Incorrect or generic Windows icon displayed for a Drive in My Computer

Quote

When you open My Computer window, one or more of the disk drives may be assigned an incorrect or a generic Windows icon (unknown file type icon) rather than disk drive symbol.

This happens due to any of the following reasons:
Presence of the file named Autorun.inf in the Drive's root folder (say C:\ )
Uninstallation of a third-party theme or an icon library has failed to remove the drive icon settings in the registry
RESOLUTION
Enable Windows to Show all files and then locate the file Autorun.inf and delete it from the root folder. Restart Windows.

If that does not help, try this:
Open Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) and navigate to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows
\CurrentVersion \Explorer \DriveIcons \<drive>

Example:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Explorer \DriveIcons \C
Backup the key by exporting it as a REG file. See here for more information.

After backing up the key, delete the <drive> key from the registry.

Navigate to the following key, backup and delete the <drive> key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \Applications \explorer.exe \ Drives
\<drive>
Close Registry Editor and restart Windows.

Good to hear. I have so many of these tip sites in my XP folder that it takes awhile to find what I'm looking for.
